For a decade, from warm spring to cold winter, no matter it is in the day or at night, the midwife Zhang Baiyi is always on call to deal with the maternity emergencies. In the delivery room, she generously devoted her youthful enthusiasm in excellently helping complete the relay of life again and again. Every time she holds the life in her arms, she wishes nothing but “safety for the mother and her baby”. In the past decade, she had heard the most touching voices and seen the happiest smiles in the world. It is this challenging but sweet job that makes her better.

“I want it to stop!” A  puerpera, tortured by the pain of childbirth, lost her temper and begged for discontinuing the delivery when the orifice of her uterus was fully opened and the head of the baby had already been seen. Like a kid getting mad, she scratched others’ hair, hammered the bed and screamed at top of her lungs. In such a case, Zhang Baiyi stood close to the bed at once to prevent the puerpera from falling with her body. Meanwhile, she comforted and encouraged the puerpera to give her the most powerful spiritual support. At last, with the joint effort of Zhang Baiyi and the doctors, the puerpera successfully gave birth to the baby. Tears fell down her face as she said “thank you” to Zhang Baiyi who was also moved into tears although she had experienced this scene for countless times. She couldn’t exactly count that over the past decade, how many uncooperative puerperae she had helped, how many times she had helped save puerperae in an emergency from danger, and how many days and nights she had spent with the mothers-to-be to go through the “darkest hour” before the arrival of the baby. However, she felt like that the sweets and bitters during the process crumbled to dust every time she held the new life in her arms, and the baby’s powerful crying was just like the greatest compliment she received.

Working as a midwife is, Zhang Baiyi depicted that, “I’m tired but satisfied.” In the past decade, no matter what setbacks she encountered, and no matter how arduous and trivial her work was, she never gave up. With the sense of mission, she diligently dedicates herself into the position of nursing. Looking back her decade of career as a midwife, there was a shiny light on every step she took. Through constant growth, Zhang Baiyi has now been the best of herself.
